Pony Play

This is a gentle outdoor class for smaller and/or quieter children ages 2.5 to 4.

This 6 week series is designed to allow children to conquer their shyness, anxieties, or fears by being able to enjoy adorable mini-horses at their own comfortable pace.  They will learn fun horsie basics such as how to brush and comb out their ponies, and pick up their little feet.  Then we’ll have some fun decorating and braiding manes and tails and we’ll event paint hooves!  As their confidence grows, children will learn how to lead and walk their ponies, and we’ll play a variety of games to practise starts and stops, and learn how to climb over and under other fun obstacles with their equine friend.

Horsie ranch crafts will also be incorporated as we collect horse hair, hoof and hand prints, as well as other treasures that we find during our play and pasture walks.

Other information:

  • This is an outdoor class so please dress children warmly in layers and have them wear boots, as stomping through springtime puddles with ponies is inevitable!
  • Parents are welcome to stay and watch, and can volunteer to help. Or relax for an hour in the HorsePlay bunkhouse which has full amenities.

HorsePlay is based out of Big Rock Farms, a 120 year old family run ranch just SW of Okotoks.
