Ranch Riders Camp
– Horse Wranglers –

Tues to Thurs for 2 weeks.
Recommended age: 9+

All takes place on Big Rock Ranch (est. 1885), an active working ranch that has been in the Carr family for 130+ years. We only cater to small groups of 6 kids a week with 80% of our time spent on and with each child’s designated horse.   That means that out of 4 hours, 3 is spent with the horse learning how to catch, halter and gives children time to build a bond with their horse.

The kids learn how to ride and be confident in the saddle during the first week in controlled areas by doing various arena drills, gymkhana events, a few fun train robberies, and cowboy challenge obstacles in addition to the hours we spend out on trails.  Then we spend the second week doing more advanced riding and natural obstacles as we spend hours riding trails across almost 500 acres.  We check the cow herd, look for seasonal flowers, fox dens, muskrats, coyotes and cow bones.

New this year are two different time options to consider.  Note that the horses will be put away at 1pm, so the time from 1 to 3:30 will be free ranging like typical ranch kids do!  Kids can play with the baby goats, explore the creek, water fights, play on the train, cuddle bunnies in the shade, help fix fence and work on ranch projects, help trainers work with colts, or just visit the baby horses again and watch them sleep. There will be supervision, and lots of horse play involved with the wranglers.
